Testing of a new second-class car for Ukrzaliznytsia has begun. What it looks like
25 March 10:56
Testing of three passenger railcars manufactured for Ukrzaliznytsia by Kryukiv Carriage Works has started. This was reported by the plant’s press service, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
The route is traditional: Kremenchuk-Poltava-Kremenchuk. The test was conducted using two SV-type compartment cars and one high-capacity second-class car. This time, it was the one that received the most attention from all test participants.
This 2025 model car is fundamentally new. Only the body has been used before, but as for the chassis, brake equipment, life support systems, security, and interior, these are new developments.
What’s new in the new second-class cars
First of all, according to the manufacturers, these cars have a new interior in light colors, as the passengers wanted. Stainless steel materials are used to the maximum extent possible. The passengers’ wishes for privacy have been taken into account, with longitudinal partitions separating the boxes from the aisle.

For the convenience of passengers on the upper shelves, the size of the luggage compartment has been reduced so that a person can sit down and use the table that is available here and can serve to work with gadgets, place food and drinks.
For passengers on the lower shelves, there is a cozy soft corner near the window, a convenient newspaper holder in the back of the sofa, and a spacious locker under the shelf.
The ergonomics of the car have been thought out – comfortable ladders for passengers on the upper shelves, curved handrails, partitions, built-in handles – all designed to make traveling as comfortable as possible for people, as well as to please the eye and cheer up.
All passengers in the second-class car will have individual lamps with dimmers and the ability to change their angle, a soft lighting spectrum, and sockets with USB ports.
The second-class car has 58 passenger seats. There are nine boxes with six seats each, and the tenth box is a four-seater. There are no side shelves because the cars have fan doors that open in both directions.

There are also changes that passengers do not see, but will definitely feel. In particular, innovations in the air conditioning and ventilation system. There are two channels on the car: one of them is used to pump in fresh air, and the other is responsible for recirculation, i.e., taking air for processing.
What else is special about this order from Ukrzaliznytsia
According to the representatives of Kryukov Carriage Works, the percentage of local content in the new reserved-seat car for Ukrzaliznytsia has increased: more than 150 domestic enterprises supplied materials and components, assemblies and parts.
Kryukiv Carriage Works actually has experience in assembling and delivering reserved seats for customers from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, etc. in the past. However, the plant has never delivered any reserved seats to Ukrzaliznytsia before.
The total order is 66 units. This month, the manufacturer plans to complete the delivery of CB cars. And in April, Ukrzaliznytsia is to receive the first batch of new high-capacity second-class cars.
New railcars from Kryukiv Plant are already on the routes of Ukrzaliznytsia
The first 10 out of 66 new railcars ordered from Kryukiv Carriage Works were delivered in December for the route #79/80 Dnipro-Lviv-Dnipro. This was reported by Ukrzaliznytsia.
Another nine new Kryukiv passenger cars were handed over to Ukrzaliznytsia on February 12 this year. They went on a trip as part of the Kharkiv-Lviv branded Oberig train.
Noting the importance of public investment in the purchase of Ukrainian rolling stock, Oleksandr Pertsovsky, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia, said that the company would be able to fully meet the demand for transportation in the next few years only if it is guaranteed to receive funding under the relevant budget program for the annual renewal of rolling stock for the period 2025-2029.
Ukrzaliznytsia also reported that the cost of one car is UAH 43-47 million, depending on its type and technical characteristics.
