100 UAH per apple: a farmer from Cherkasy region grows unique fruits (video)

Agronomist Volodymyr Bardyk from Cherkasy region grows unusual heart-shaped apples. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Suspilne.
“We started growing hearts in 2017 or 2018. We started with 20 pieces. We seemed to like it, then we grew 100, 200, and we have reached almost two thousand pieces today,” the farmer said.
In order to give the fruit an unnatural shape, it is placed in a special transparent heart-shaped mold. This is done in July, and two months later, the Golden Delicious, Gala, Champion, and Simirenka apple trees produce a harvest.
According to the farmer, such apples in molds undergo fewer chemical treatments than regular apples:
“An apple that is outdoors, we treat it with fungicides against diseases and pests, give it microfertilizers, so ordinary apples see all this, but in a closed mold they don’t,” Volodymyr Bardyk explained.
The harvest is stored in the refrigerator. Heart apples are especially popular on the eve of Valentine’s Day on February 14. The farmer sells the fruit by the piece in special packaging. Last year, one such apple cost about 100 UAH.
