Plagiarism in dissertations: four scholars are deprived of their degrees

The Attestation Board of the Ministry of Education and Science has revoked the academic degrees of four scientists due to plagiarism found in their works. This is stated in an order published on the website of the Ministry of Education and Science, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

This time, four scientists were deprived of their degrees. Textual borrowings without citation were found in their dissertations.

In particular, Oleh Mishchenko was deprived of his PhD in Economics with a degree in Economics and National Economy Management.

The blog “Plagiarism and Falsification” noted that plagiarism was found in the dissertation “Activation of Innovation and Investment Development of the Food Industry in Ukraine”. A large number of coincidences with Victoria Gubina’s 2015 monograph were found in the work.

Mykola Koliadynskyi was deprived of his PhD degree in Environmental Safety.

He defended his dissertation “Management of Environmental Safety of Soils and Groundwater in the Zone of Influence of Landfills”, which was found to be plagiarized, in 2013.

Andrii Zabolotnyi was deprived of his PhD in Public Administration, specializing in the Theory and History of Public Administration.

He defended his dissertation on “Legal regulation of professional activity in the field of public service: public administration aspect” in 2021.

Roksana Chupryna was deprived of her PhD in Obstetrics and Gynecology. in 2015, she defended her dissertation on the prevention of menopausal disorders in women with benign unspecified uterine and ovarian tumors.

In addition, the Attestation Board of the Ministry of Education and Science canceled the decision of the Academic Council of one of the higher education institutions to award the academic title of associate professor, as the applicant’s educational activities did not correspond to his or her declared specialty.

At the same time, the board awarded 213 academic degrees and 513 academic titles.

It also found that 18 scientific publications had not published a single issue in the last two years or more. Some publications released their last issues 4-5 years ago. Therefore, they were removed from the List of Scientific Professional Publications of Ukraine.
