President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed amendments to the Tax Code to increase excise taxes on fuel. The first increase will take place as early as 1 September 2024, Komersant ukrainskyi reports, citing draft law No. 11256-2 on the parliament’s website.
The draft law provides for a gradual increase in the excise tax on fuel to the minimum level set in the European Union.
Draft Law No. 11256-2 provides for a gradual increase in excise taxes on various types of fuel by 1 January 2028. The transition phase is to start on 1 September 2024.
How fuel prices will rise
According to the draft law, starting from 1 September, the excise tax will increase
- by 14%, to €242.6/1000 litres of petrol
- by 27%, to €177.6/1000 litres of diesel fuel
- three times, to €165/1000 litres of autogas.
Currently, the excise tax rate for petrol is €213.5 per 1,000 litres, for diesel – €139.5, and for autogas – €52.
According to the authors of the law, the increased excise tax will lead to a rise in the price of petrol at petrol stations by UAH 1.50 per litre, diesel by UAH 1.95, and autogas by UAH 5.8 per litre.
Energy expert Oleksandr Sirenko says that if the tax is raised, liquefied gas in Ukraine will become more expensive than in the EU as early as July.
