SSO lieutenant colonel turned out to be a mole: he passed plans for special operations to Russians
15 November 12:55Ukrainian special services detained a Russian intelligence “mole”. He was passing on plans for special operations of the Defense Forces in their rear to the Russians. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the SBU.
It is stated that the enemy agent was detained with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi and the Commander of the Special Forces.
The attacker was a lieutenant colonel, commander of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Russian military intelligence (GRU) recruited the officer before the outbreak of a full-scale war through his acquaintances in Russia with whom he kept in touch.
“In the spring of 2024, he was remotely ‘activated’ by a Russian GRU officer and assigned a task: to pass on to the Nazis plans for combat operations of the Defense Forces behind enemy lines,” the statement said.
The aggressor was most interested in intelligence on sabotage and reconnaissance raids by Ukrainian special forces behind the front line in the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Crimean sectors.
the “mole” used his official position to obtain information about the planned routes of movement of the Defense Forces, their weapons and “targets”.
The occupiers planned to use this information to eliminate Ukrainian special forces on the front line or beyond it – on the temporarily occupied part of the territory in southern Ukraine.
The agent also “leaked” information about other units of the Defense Forces to his Russian supervisor.
“As a result of the special operation, the SBU military counterintelligence gradually documented the traitor’s crimes and detained him. At the same time, comprehensive measures were taken to secure the locations of the Defense Forces,” the SBU said.
During the searches, the SBU seized means of secret communication, computer equipment, a mobile phone and data storage devices from the detainee.
The officer was served a notice of suspicion under the article on high treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
