During the acute phase of a full-scale war, it is almost impossible to prepare and hold elections that would meet modern democratic standards. This was stated by the Head of the Central Election Commission, Oleg Didenko, in an interview with Komersant ukrainskyi.

The official reminded that Ukrainian legislation currently prohibits holding elections during martial law. It is also unknown whether the legislation will be amended, as it is a political decision. However, in his opinion, it is almost impossible to hold democratic elections during the acute phase of the war.

“Ukraine is a democratic state and should remain so. The democratic nature of our post-war elections is a condition not only for our development, integration, and recovery, but also for our survival. It is important for us to hold elections in accordance with international standards, not the way Russia, for example, does it. The elections must be properly prepared and organized. Is it possible to do this in the context of armed conflict? No!”

– said the CEC Chairman.
