The first auction for the sale of 12 thousand tons of Ukrzaliznytsia’s scrap metal failed

Ukrzaliznytsia failed to sell 12,000 tons of scrap metal at the first auction in the Prozorro.Sale system due to a lack of activity from potential buyers. The company announced this on its Facebook page, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
It is noted that no bids were submitted for some lots at all, while only one participant registered for others.
One of the reasons for the low interest in the company is the uncertainty about the export of ferrous scrap. In particular, it refers to the possible introduction of licensing and the establishment of a zero export quota in 2025, which, as UZ emphasizes, discourages businesses from participating in auctions.
As a reminder, in April 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers granted Ukrzaliznytsia the right to independently decide on the sale of property with a book value of up to UAH 500 million. This, in particular, opened up the possibility of selling scrap metal and crushed stone products.
The first auction, held on 26 May, involved the sale of 12,000 tons of scrap metal in more than 30 lots located at facilities in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Poltava, Odesa and Chernihiv regions.
Prior to the auctions, Ukrzaliznytsia held a meeting with market representatives, which was attended by more than 30 companies, and took their proposals into account.
