Ukraine will be represented at the highest level at today’s talks in Turkey. In particular, military and intelligence officials have arrived in Turkey. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy upon his arrival in Ankara, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Today, May 15, around noon, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the Turkish capital. In Ankara, he will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“Our delegation is at the highest level. The Foreign Ministry, my Office, the military, our intelligence, representatives of all our intelligence agencies, by the way, in order to make any decisions before the expected just peace,” the president said.

Zelenskyy said that the level of the Russian delegation was more like a sham. It is unknown what mandate the Russian representatives have.

“From what we can see, it looks more like a prop level. We need to understand what level the Russian delegation is and what their mandate is, whether they are able to make decisions on their own. Because we all know who makes decisions in Russia,” the President said.

The Head of State confirmed that he would first meet with the President of Turkey. Zelenskyy expressed hope that he would have “several hours for an important conversation, very important decisions” with Erdogan. These talks will determine “what the next steps will be,” the Ukrainian leader added.

What to expect in Istanbul

On the night of May 11, Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced his readiness for direct talks with the Ukrainian side, which are to take place in Istanbul on May 15. However, in his statement, he did not mention a single word about a possible 30-day ceasefire, as the Ukrainian side and its partners want.

US President Donald Trump said that Ukraine must urgently agree to the talks in Turkey proposed by Putin for May 15. At the same time, the American president did not pay attention to the absence of a 30-day truce clause in the Kremlin’s proposal.

Nevertheless, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed and wrote that he would personally wait for Putin in Turkey to meet on May 15. At the same time, he expressed hope that the ceasefire would begin on May 12.

The Kremlin has officially confirmed that it is preparing for the talks, but has not said who will attend them.

Russia has not accepted the ceasefire.
