The Ukrainian team won 12 medals at the Olympic Games in Paris: 3 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze. For each of the medals, our athletes will receive a predetermined amount of prize money from the Ukrainian state, reports Komersant ukrainskyi
Thus, gold medallists will receive $125,000 each. This includes the women’s sabre fencing team of Olga Harlan, Olena Kravatska, Alina Komashchuk and Yulia Bakastova, as well as athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh and boxer Oleksandr Khyzhnyak.
Silver medallists will receive $100,000 each. They are Sergey Kulish (bullet shooting), Ilya Kovtun (artistic gymnastics), Parviz Nasibov (Greco-Roman wrestling), Irina Kolyadenko (women’s wrestling), Lyudmila Luzan and Anastasia Rybachok (canoeing).
Bronze medallists will receive $80,000 each: Olga Kharlan (individual fencing), Iryna Gerashchenko (high jump), Mikhail Kokhan (hammer throw) and Jean Beleniuk (Greco-Roman wrestling).
Coaches will receive 50% of their athletes’ prize money.
It is worth mentioning the athletes who will receive additional prize money.
Olga Harlan won two medals – a gold medal in the team event and a bronze medal in the individual competition. Her total prize money from the state will amount to $205,000 ($125,000-80,000).
In addition to the state prize of $125,000, Yaroslava Maguchikh will receive an additional $50,000 from World Athletics. The total amount of her prize money will be $175,000.
Oleksandr Khyzhnyak, in addition to the state prize, will receive $80,000 from Oleksandr Usyk, bringing his total prize money to $205,000.
Thus, Olga Harlan and Oleksandr Khyzhnyak will receive the largest amount of prize money – $205,000 each, and Yaroslava Maguchikh – $175,000.
The total amount of state prize money for athletes and their coaches will be $2,467,500.
Prize money for Olympic medals in other countries
The NV.ua publication has provided the amount of prize money that athletes from other countries will receive.
- In Hong Kong, Olympic champions will receive $768,000, as well as free subway tickets for life.
- In South Korea, the gold medal prize is $45,000, and any Olympic medal guarantees exemption from military service.
- Malaysia pays $215,000 for gold, as well as an SUV, an apartment, and free food delivery.
- In Poland, the champions will receive $25,000, a diamond, a two-bedroom apartment in Warsaw, a painting, and a holiday voucher.
- Iraq offers a million dollars to any medallist, as well as a car and a plot of land.
- Indonesia pays $300,000 for gold, as well as land, free meals in restaurants, and five cows.
