Ukraine has stopped competing at the 2024 Olympic Games in tennis. Ukrainian tennis players Nadiya and Lyudmyla Kichenok dropped out of the 1/4 finals. This is reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to Suspilne.
Liudmyla and Nadiia Kichenok lost to the Spanish pair of Cristiana Buxa and Sara Sorribes-Tormo in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games – 3:6, 6:2, 10:12.
The match lasted 1 hour and 43 minutes. During the game, the Ukrainians served 1 ace and made 4 double faults.
Kichenok became the last Ukrainian tennis players to drop out of the 2024 Olympics.
In the first round of the Olympics, the Ukrainians confidently defeated China’s Xin Yu Wang and Saisai Zheng, closing the match in two sets – 6:1, 6:4. The match of the 1/8 finals, on the other hand, was not so easy for the Ukrainians. In a match against the fourth seeds, the Americans Danielle Collins and Desiree Krawczyk, the sisters lost the first game 3-6, but bounced back to win a strong-willed victory in the third set.
The Ukrainians repeated their best result at the Games – in Tokyo, they also stopped in the quarter-finals.
Earlier, Angelina Kalinina, Diana Yastremska, Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostiuk finished their performances at the Olympics.
The Ukrainian national team won bronze and silver medals, which were won by Olga Harlan and Serhiy Kulish.
