Lubinets: Occupants spread video of alleged execution of unarmed Ukrainian soldiers

A video of the alleged execution of at least 5 unarmed Ukrainian soldiers who were captured by Russians is being shared on social media.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

“We once again see a cynical disregard for international humanitarian law on the part of the Russian army. Those who give orders and carry out such atrocities must be held strictly accountable,” he said.

The Ombudsman has sent letters to the UN and the ICRC to ensure that the war crime is recorded.

What is known about the executions of captured Ukrainian soldiers?
As of November 2024, law enforcement officers were investigating 53 criminal proceedings over the execution of 177 soldiers. In October-November alone, 13 such proceedings were registered against 54 soldiers.

Last year, the number of criminal proceedings opened over the murders of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russians increased more than 4 times compared to 2022 and 2023.

It is known that 3 indictments were sent to court. The courts of Chernihiv region handed down two life sentences for Russians who killed prisoners of war during the occupation of the villages of Sloboda and Lukashivka in March 2022.
