What is the National Unity Radio Dictation?
The National Unity Radio Dictation is an event dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, which is celebrated on 27 October. It was launched by the Ukrainian Radio team in 2000 to unite Ukrainians around their native language, and over time, it has become the largest Ukrainian-language flash mob, attracting participants from Ukraine and abroad.
Usually, the most active participants are schoolchildren, students and teachers, who practice their language skills once again. However, representatives of different age groups and professions also join the event, and the number of participants is growing every year.
In 2023, more than half a million people joined the radio dictation, about 20,000 of whom sent their works for review. Seven people became winners.
Last year, the text of the dictation was prepared by writer and translator Kateryna Kalytko and read out by actor and director Oleksiy Hnatkovsky.
