Ukrainians have started receiving fake emails from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, intimidating them with the Rivne NPP disaster. This was was reported by the Centre for Countering Disinformation, reports [Kommersant].
The letters refer to an alleged missile attack on the nuclear power plant, which caused a radiation leak. As a result, residents of Rivne, Volyn, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, Lviv, Ternopil, Vinnytsia and Kyiv regions are in danger.
The emails also contained evacuation instructions and links to dubious resources. However, the text of the emails that Ukrainians received in their emails contained gross spelling mistakes.
The CPD emphasises that the SES did not send out such messages, and the agency’s emails were not hacked. It is likely that these letters were sent through duplicate mailboxes and are part of a Russian information attack aimed at spreading panic among the population, discrediting Ukrainian government agencies and reducing the level of trust in them.
“If you receive such an email, mark it as spam and do not click on the links provided. If you do click on the link, contact the Cyber Police,” the Ukrainians were warned.
