Well-known TV presenter and volunteer Serhiy Prytula has founded the Prytula Foundation USA, an American foundation that will attract aid from North America for humanitarian support projects. Prytula said this in an interview with the Ukrainian Service of the Voice of America, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
“This is a separate legal entity, that is, it is not a branch. Everything will work in accordance with local legislation, taking into account all the nuances. It will be an accumulation of funds for the humanitarian component. Although I am not saying that it will not affect people in uniform – for example, we will purchase tactical medicine, which we regularly do in the US. In addition, we are very fruitfully engaged in helping with humanitarian demining,” said Sergey Prytula
He also added that the creation of the US fund would simplify the process of purchasing equipment in America and save money.
“Why do we need to spend the hryvnia mass that we accumulate in Ukraine and then convert it into dollars to pay an invoice from the United States? If we can accumulate money in the US and spend it immediately in the US. We won’t lose money on the exchange rate, we won’t lose time on logistics,” Prytula added.
The Foundation has been granted 501(c)(3) status under the US tax code. This means that Prytula Foundation U.S.A. does not pay tax on donations received, and donors who are U.S. citizens will be able to reduce their taxable income by the amount of their donation to Prytula Foundation U.S.A.
Currently, the US-based foundation is raising funds for projects such as tactical medicine training, humanitarian demining, reconstruction of school shelters, and healthcare in war-affected areas.
It should be noted that in 2024, the Serhiy Prytula Charitable Foundation in Ukraine received $2,500,000 from foreign donors for humanitarian projects to support Ukrainian communities (as of early August 2024)
Other 501(c)(3) foundations supporting Ukraine are also based in the United States, such as Razom for Ukraine, United Help Ukraine, Nova Ukraine and others.
