New Year’s table-2025: how much will it cost and what products have risen in price

The cost of a budget New Year’s table with traditional holiday dishes for a Ukrainian family of four will increase by almost a quarter and cost UAH 3,594. Ukrainians who have the opportunity to buy delicacies will have to pay an additional UAH 739. This is reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the press service of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, whose scientists calculated the cost of the New Year’s table in 2025 at the average prices of Ukrainian supermarkets as of mid-December 2024.

According to their calculations, the New Year’s menu of dishes that are traditional for the average family’s table: salads, meat and fish products, vegetables, fruits, bakery and confectionery products, drinks, etc. will cost about UAH 3,594.05 for a family of four, which is 24.8% more expensive than last year.

For example, an Olivier salad (3 kg of traditional recipe products) will cost UAH 384.41. This is 17.7% more than during the New Year’s Eve celebrations in 2024. The most expensive ingredient in the dish this year is sausage – UAH 160 per 0.5 kg (an 11.1% increase in prices depending on the manufacturer). Vegetables have also risen significantly in price. The price of potatoes this year has increased by 70% compared to last year: we will pay UAH 20.01 for 580 g. But two carrots (280 g) will cost UAH 8.41 (98.7%), and 2 onions (230 g) will cost UAH 4.16 (5.7%). The prices for the rest of the holiday salad ingredients have also gone up: 6 chicken eggs (360 g) cost 46.82 UAH (35.4%), green peas – 56.05 UAH per 0.5 kg (24.6%). The price of canned cucumbers remained at the same level as last year – UAH 38.21 per 200 g. A 350 g salad with mayonnaise will cost 50.75 UAH (12%).

According to researchers, preparing the Herring Under a Fur Coat salad (1.570 kg of products) will cost UAH 168.19, which is 21.9% more expensive than last year (UAH 138.01). The lion’s share of the cost of a traditional salad will be herring fillet – 119 UAH per 0.5 kg. Mayonnaise (180 g) will cost 25.88 UAH. Prices for vegetables, such as potatoes and carrots, have more than doubled compared to last year. You will have to pay UAH 9.66 for 2 potatoes (280 g), UAH 5.71 for 1 carrot (190 g), UAH 4.86 for 1 beet (250 g), and UAH 3.08 for 1 onion (170 g).

It is noted that the cost of meat products increased by 13.4% over the year. For 350 g of Brunswick smoked sausage, you will have to pay UAH 334 (19% more than in 2023), half a kilo of baked bacon – UAH 227 (11%), a kilo of pork (fresh) – UAH 294 (12%).

As emphasized by the IAE, poultry meat remains the cheapest among the types of meat as of the end of 2024. For 1 kg of fresh chicken fillet, you will have to pay an average of UAH 174 (a 9% price increase). In total, the cost of 2,850 kg of meat products on the New Year’s table will be UAH 1,029.

In addition, herring (0.5 kg of fillet), which is traditional for the Ukrainian table, will cost 119 UAH.

According to the researchers, dairy products have significantly increased in price this year. Hard cheese (300 g) will cost 148.5 UAH (28%), and a pack of butter (200 g) will cost 104 UAH (44%).

The averagecost of vegetables on the New Year’s table will be UAH 496, which is 32% more than last year. This year, potatoes (2 kg) will cost UAH 65 (70%), champignon mushrooms (1 kg) – UAH 157 (15%), sweet peppers (0.5 kg) – UAH 99 (38%), fresh cucumbers (0.5 kg) – UAH 55 (22%), fresh tomatoes (1 kg) – UAH 120 (42%).

Fruit on the holiday table will cost 254 UAH (49% increase in price). We will pay 177 UAH for 2 kg of tangerines, 1 kg of bananas will cost an average of 62 UAH, and 1 lemon (200 g) will cost 15 UAH.

A loafofwhite breadwill cost UAH 28 (19%). Chocolates will cost an average of 280 UAH per 1 kg (40%).

A bottle of Artemivske champagne (0.75 liters) will cost 209 UAH. A little more – UAH 263 – will have to be paid for a bottle (0.5 liters) of 5-year old Shabo brandy. The price increase is 17% and 25%, respectively.

Soft drinks for the festive table will cost UAH 110.95 (up 7.3%). For Nash Sik multivitamin juice with 950 ml of pulp, you will have to pay UAH 39.50 (9%), for Coca-Cola (1.75 liters) – UAH 48.22 (6%), for Morshynska mineral water (1.5 liters) – UAH 23.23 (7%).

Ukrainians who have the opportunity to buy delicacies will have to pay an additional UAH 739. Depending on the manufacturer, a jar of red caviar (100 g) will cost an average of UAH 420, and 180 g of red fish will cost UAH 319. Thus, the cost of a New Year’s table with delicacies will amount to UAH 4333.05 (27.3%).

“The almost quarter (24.8%) increase in the cost of the 2025 New Year’s table compared to last year indicates an increase in the cost of food for ordinary Ukrainians, which is especially noticeable against the backdrop of economic difficulties and declining incomes. Consequently, most Ukrainians will have to save on the traditional set of food products,” the scientists state.

It should be noted that the cost of the budget version of the New Year’s table for an average family of four last year amounted to about UAH 2879.15.
