New program: Shmyhal announces UAH 6.5 thousand for poor families with children with disabilities

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has announced the first steps in implementing a “comprehensive Winter Support package for Ukrainian families”. One of the main priorities of the program is to protect children, who should have safe and comfortable conditions for living, learning and development. The Prime Minister wrote about this in Telegram, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

The package includes a children’s component that includes several initiatives, including the Warm Winter program. It provides a one-time financial assistance for children to get through the cold period.

“In December, every low-income family and IDP families with children or adults with disabilities of the first group will receive UAH 6,500 for each child. These funds will be used to buy warm clothes, shoes and other things needed in winter,”

– mr. Shmyhal said.

The Cabinet of Ministers adopted the relevant resolution today, which launches this initiative. The payments are expected to start in December.

In addition, the Prime Minister said that on St. Nicholas Day, orphans and children deprived of parental care who are raised in families with guardians or caretakers will receive an additional one thousand hryvnias for each child.

The government also redirected more than UAH 268 million to provide free hot meals for primary school students.

“Previously, we allocated UAH 2 billion to the local level. For the next year, the state budget has provided UAH 2.9 billion for school meals and another UAH 960 million for the modernization of canteens. “President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set an important task – students of all grades should have free meals. We will look for opportunities and resources for this purpose,”
