6 December 13:56

The Ukrainian Embassy in Lebanon has called on Ukrainians to leave Syria. The reason is the deteriorating security situation. This is stated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

Citizens of Ukraine are asked to refrain from any trips to Syria until the security situation stabilizes, and those who are in the country are asked to leave.

For Ukrainians who decide to stay, the Foreign Ministry recommends

  • avoid crowded places;
  • not to participate in rallies or demonstrations;
  • strictly follow security measures and rules of stay of foreigners in the country;
  • not to leave their place of residence unless absolutely necessary;
  • always carry identification documents with them;
  • consider shortening their stay in the country.

“In case of an emergency, a threat to life and health, we recommend that you immediately contact the Embassy of Ukraine in the Lebanese Republic,” the statement said.

As a reminder, Russian and Syrian warplanes have intensified air strikes on the rebel-held city of Idlib in northern Syria

The intensified bombardment began after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad announced his intention to defeat the rebels.

According to local residents, one of the attacks hit a crowded residential area in the center of Idlib. This is the largest city in the rebel enclave near the Turkish border, where about four million people live, mostly in temporary tents and houses.
