He did not return to the country: the director of the National Museum of History of Ukraine got into a scandal

The director of the National Museum of History of Ukraine, Fedir Androshchuk, has not returned from a business trip abroad. This was reported by MP and member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Solomiya Bobrovska on her Facebook page, [omersant] reports.

“Fedir Androshchuk went on a business trip abroad and did not return. By the way, the business trip ended on September 20. Apparently, he used his other citizenships for the purpose, went on a business trip to Italy and Sweden, and according to the response to my deputy’s appeal, got lost at the opening of an exhibition in Lithuania,” Bobrovska wrote.

Androshchuk himself has already responded to Solomiya Bobrovska’s post and publications in the media and Telegram channels. According to the director of the National Museum of History of Ukraine, he did not return to the country from a business trip abroad because he has Swedish citizenship. He worked in Ukraine during his business trip.

“The Ministry was warned about my Swedish citizenship and knew that my home was there. Therefore, I am not actually on a business trip in Sweden, but in Ukraine. I live permanently in Sweden, not in Ukraine,” Androshchuk explained.

He also added that he submitted his resignation three months ago. He decided to resign because the Ministry of Culture did not extend his business trip due to the need to work on the research project “Sweden and Ukraine in the History of Museum Collections and Exhibition Narratives.”

“In general, it is somewhat strange why such information is surfacing now, and it is a shame that it can unduly harm the museum,” Androshchuk added.

It should be noted that Fedir Androshchuk is a Ukrainian archaeologist, specialist in Scandinavian studies, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Director General of the National Museum of History of Ukraine since 2020, and a full member of the Executive Board of the European Association of Archaeologists since 2022.
