National Bank issues commemorative coin for Easter: it has the shape of an Easter egg

The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a commemorative coin in the shape of an Easter egg for the first time, honoring a Ukrainian tradition. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the NBU.
According to the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine, it is the Ukrainian Easter egg that stands out from the rest – elegant, rich in ornaments and content, it embodies a deep tradition and centuries-old skill of Easter egg making.
“Paying tribute to this unique national tradition, the NBU has issued a commemorative coin in the shape of an Easter egg for the first time since the launch of its numismatic program,” the NBU said.
The commemorative coin “Easter Joy. Easter Egg” has been in circulation since April 17.
Coin design
The coin is made of 999 silver, with a pure weight of 31.1 g. It is decorated with enamel and local gilding.
Its face value is 10 hryvnias.
- The reverse of the coin depicts a traditional Easter egg from Odesa region, known as “Sorokoput” or “Cossack levadas”. The pysanka is decorated with intricate ornaments, each of which has a deep meaning.

- The obverse of the coin features a stylized tree of life in the shape of an oak tree in the center of the composition. It is dotted with 12 pysankas depicting ancient symbols of our ancestors.

The design of this unique coin was created by designer Oleksandra Kuchynska.
The mintage is up to 15,000 pieces.
The coin will be available for purchase later in the NBU’s online numismatic products store, as well as from distributor banks
