Trump will have people who support Ukraine in important positions
12 November 09:12US President-elect Donald Trump has made his choice for two key foreign policy positions. These positions are to be filled by figures from the Republican “hawkish” wing, who, compared to traditional Trumpists, demonstrate a greater commitment to supporting Ukraine. This was reportedby Yevropeiska Pravda, according to Komersant ukrainskyi
Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who is the vice chairman of the Intelligence Committee and a senior member of the Foreign Relations Committee, has been elected as a candidate for the post of US Secretary of State. The New York Times was the first to report his nomination. Rubio’s nomination was also publicly confirmed by his colleague from Florida, Senator Rick Scott. He noted that Rubio would “restore American leadership in the world.”
A vote in Congress is required to officially confirm Rubio’s candidacy, but given Trump’s control of both chambers, the procedure is expected to go smoothly.
Rubio has a history of supporting Ukraine – he voted for the next aid package in 2024, actively advocated for the need for aid, and even criticized fellow party members who questioned the feasibility of supporting Ukraine. Although Rubio has recently tone down his rhetoric on ending the war, he remains one of the most vocal supporters of the Ukrainian issue in the Republican Party.

Trump chose Congressman Mike Waltz, who also represents Florida, to serve as National Security Advisor. His appointment was reported by numerous media outlets, including The Washington Post.
Waltz, like Rubio, is known for his strong foreign policy positions, which are sharply different from Trump’s general public line. Waltz is the son of Cuban immigrants and has become famous for his support of regime change policies in authoritarian countries. He has military experience as a veteran of the US Army and is the first Green Beret, a member of the Special Operations Forces, to become a congressman.
Waltz has also served as an advisor at the Pentagon and ran a company that performed defense contracts for the U.S. Department of Defense. In the House of Representatives, he specializes in confronting China and reducing dependence on Chinese resources, acting as one of the harshest critics of China among Republicans.
Despite his lack of experience in the Trump administration, Waltz has a good relationship with him, in particular through his active support of the former president in his appearances on Fox News and his advice on national security issues. Waltz is in favor of further support for Ukraine, but emphasizes the need to control the spending of American taxpayer funds.
