The evacuation zone for civilians in Sumy region has been expanded to include five settlements. Tens of thousands of people are forced to leave their homes because of the threat of Russian shelling. This was stated by the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Artyukh, during a telethon, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
According to him, the evacuation is being carried out in the Hlukhiv and Esman communities, as well as in five other settlements of the Shostka and Konotop districts. The decision was made in connection with the continuous hostile shelling that threatens the lives of civilians.
“A decision was made at the Regional Defence Council and now we are implementing this decision on how to evacuate the population from the city of Glukhov and the Glukhov community. This is a very large number – tens of thousands of people,” said Artyukh.
The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration noted that since the beginning of the year, Russian troops have carried out almost 11,000 attacks on the territory of the region. The enemy is targeting civilian infrastructure, including educational institutions, resulting in the deaths of civilians, including children.
“Last night, the enemy conducted an air strike on the building of one of the universities in Sumy. This building was used for classes for students and had nothing to do with the military. A day earlier, the Russians entered a children’s rehabilitation centre and an orphanage, both of which are located in residential areas,” he said.
