In Ivano-Frankivsk, the secretary of a college admissions committee was exposed for demanding a bribe for enrolling an applicant to defer mobilisation. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the press service of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
For his services, the secretary of the admission committee of the professional college of the Lviv National University of Environmental Management demanded $800 from an applicant of military age.
“Under the procedural guidance of juvenile prosecutors of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the secretary of the admissions committee and the head of the state college department were served a notice of suspicion of extortion and receipt of unlawful benefit (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” law enforcement officers said.
The official promised to enrol the man in a vocational college on a full-time basis. This would allow him to get a deferment from military service.
Law enforcement officers detained the educator immediately after receiving the bribe, and the court has already imposed a round-the-clock house arrest on him.
The man was suspended from his position and faces up to 10 years in prison.
