Poltava region and its subsoil
Earthquakes often occur in regions where there is no increased seismic activity, but where gas is produced. For example, the Netherlands is gradually reducing gas production at Europe’s largest field in the province of Groningen due to frequent earthquakes.
Poltava region is one of the leaders in terms of gas deposits and production in Ukraine, with a third of all gas in Ukraine being produced here. Only last autumn, a new well was completed here, and two more were restarted the year before. on 20 January 2024, according to local media reports, exploration work was to begin on the territory of the Reshetylivska community. Subsoil exploration is carried out using seismic waves.
