New checkpoint opened on the border of Ukraine and Hungary

A new international automobile checkpoint “Velyka Palad – Nagyhodos” on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border has been opened in Zakarpattia. This was announced by the Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

“Today, a new checkpoint on the border of Ukraine and Hungary “Velyka Palad – Nagyhodos” was opened for automobile and passenger traffic. It will increase the annual capacity of the Ukrainian-Hungarian section of the western border by more than 70 thousand cars and 220 thousand pedestrians,” Shmyhal wrote on Telegram.

Shmyhal noted that this is part of a comprehensive policy to modernize border infrastructure, which aims to upgrade 29 checkpoints and build 17 new ones by 2030. Also, part of the changes on the western border will be the launch of joint customs and border control with neighboring states, updating the technical base, and further digitalization.

“We want the movement of people, goods and services between Ukraine and Europe to be as fast, convenient and safe as possible,” Shmyhal wrote.

How the Velyka Palad-Nogodosh checkpoint will work

The checkpoint was launched on a temporary infrastructure, which allowed for a quick implementation of the project. It is planned to build a full-fledged checkpoint in the future.

The new checkpoint is designed for cars up to 3.5 tons.

The press service of the Zakarpattia Customs reported that the checkpoint will be open daily from 7:00 to 18:00 and will have two lanes for entry and exit.

It will allow 200 cars and 600 pedestrians to cross it per day.
