The State Bureau of Investigation has brought to court the case of a Cherkasy law enforcement officer who, together with his accomplices, extorted $350,000 for a promise to “close” a criminal investigation. This is reported by the press service of the SBI, according to Komersant ukrainskyi.
The law enforcement officer offered to “resolve the issue” to one of the defendants in the criminal proceedings of the SBI. He promised to help him avoid responsibility. For their “services”, the dealers asked for 350 thousand dollars.
In fact, the law enforcement officer and his accomplices simply wanted to swindle the victim out of his money and were not going to fulfill their promises, as they realized that they could not influence SBI investigators and prosecutors who were conducting procedural supervision.
SBI officers detained the law enforcement officer and his accomplices red-handed after receiving $350,000.
They are accused of misappropriation of another’s property by breach of trust (fraud) committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons on a particularly large scale.
The article provides for a sentence of up to 12 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
