Customs inspector in Vinnytsia region demanded a bribe to avoid declaring money

A customs inspector in the Vinnytsia region who “turned a blind eye” to the undeclared export of currency abroad faces up to ten years in prison. This was reported by the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor’s Office, reports .
The official worked at the Dniester customs post at the Mohyliv-Podilskyi – Otach checkpoint. The inspector detected funds from citizens that exceeded the permitted limit for export without declaration of $10,000 and demanded a “reward” for avoiding the declaration procedure. The official did not charge much for her “services” – USD 100 for every USD 10,000 above the limit, i.e. 1% of the exported amount. She was detained on a $600 bribe.

The woman has now been suspended from her position and a preventive measure of detention has been imposed on her with bail of over UAH 200,000, which she has posted. She is now facing a trial and the prospect of imprisonment for 5 to 10 years.
