A customs inspector in the Vinnytsia region who “turned a blind eye” to the undeclared export of currency abroad faces up to ten years in prison. This was reported by the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor’s Office, reports комерсант.

The official worked at the Dniester customs post at the Mohyliv-Podilskyi – Otach checkpoint. The inspector detected funds from citizens that exceeded the permitted limit for export without declaration of $10,000 and demanded a “reward” for avoiding the declaration procedure. The official did not charge much for her “services” – USD 100 for every USD 10,000 above the limit, i.e. 1% of the exported amount. She was detained on a $600 bribe.

The woman has now been suspended from her position and a preventive measure of detention has been imposed on her with bail of over UAH 200,000, which she has posted. She is now facing a trial and the prospect of imprisonment for 5 to 10 years.
