Ukraine’s international partners, who provide military and economic assistance, periodically raise the issue of lowering the mobilisation age for Ukrainian men. In their opinion, the age of 18 to 25 is the most optimal and effective for citizens to be able to fight effectively due to their physical and psychological qualities. This was announced by a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Fedir Venislavsky, during a press conference at the Ukrainian Media Centre, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
“But there are no initiatives at the level of our state, at the level of the legislative, executive, and presidential branches,” Venislavsky said.
He added that the mobilisation currently taking place in Ukraine fully satisfies the military leadership. He also said that after the adoption of the law on mobilisation, its pace has improved significantly.
“The situation with mobilisation today is satisfactory for the top military leadership (…), President Zelensky, (…) and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Syrsky,” he said.
The MP noted that the Reserve TCC system has made it possible to significantly simplify the process of notifying persons liable for military service.
“The paper system of military registration was substantially destroyed, the electronic registration of persons liable for military service in the format envisaged by the law on the Unified Register did not work, and we had a gap between the real number of persons liable for military service who could be mobilised and those for whom there is some information. Accordingly, we have achieved this goal,” said Venislavskyi.
At the same time, there will be no summonses through the Reserve, the MP noted.
“There are no technical problems with notifying persons liable for military service, but there is an unequivocal will of the President, the Verkhovna Rada, and the Executive Branch that the Reserve and other means of electronic communication with Ukrainian citizens will not be used to serve calls,” he said.
As a reminder, on 2 April, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the Law “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Military Duty and Military Service”. The draft age was reduced from 27 to 25 years.
The issue of demobilisation remains an open question. According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, Dmitry Lazutkin, this issue depends on many theoretical and practical factors , including possible mobilisation in Russia and changes in the situation on the battlefield due to Western support.
However, Fedir Venislavskyi believes that demobilisation is not to be expected at all.
Nevertheless, a number of MPs have registered a draft law on demobilisation. However, it remains to be seen whether it will be put to a vote in the Verkhovna Rada.
