International Man Booker Prize: which books were shortlisted

The list of nominees for the International Booker Prize has been announced – it includes 13 works that will compete for one of the world’s most prestigious literary awards. This is stated on the website of the Booker Prize, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

Out of 154 books, 13 nominees were selected:

  • The Book of Disappearance by Ibtisam Azem, translated by Sinan Antun;
  • On the Calculation of Volume I by Solvei Balle, translated by Barbara J. Haveland;
  • There’s a Monster Behind the Door by Gael Belm, translated by Karen Fleetwood and Laetitia St. Lubber;
  • Solenoid by Mircea Carterescu, translated by Sean Cotter;
  • Reservoir Bitches by Dalia de la Cerda, translated by Heather Cleary and Julia Sanchez;
  • Small Boat by Vincent Delacroix, translated by Helen Stevenson;
  • Hunchback by Sao Ichikawa, translated by Polly Barton;
  • Under the Eye of the Big Bird by Hiromi Kawakami, translated by Asa Yoneda;
  • Eurotrash by Christian Kracht, translated by Daniel Bowles;
  • Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico, translated by Sophie Hughes;
  • Heart Lamp by Bani Mushtaq, translated by Deepa Bhasti;
  • On a Woman’s Madness by Astrid Roemer, translated by Lucy Scott;
  • A Leopard-Skin Hat by Anne Serr, translated by Mark Hutchinson.

None of this year’s shortlisted authors have been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize before.

The six shortlisted books will be announced on April 8. Each shortlisted book will be awarded £5,000: £2500 for the author and £2500 for the translator (or translators).

The winner of the Man Booker International Prize 2025 will be announced on May 20 at a ceremony at the Tate Modern in London.

The prize is 50,000 pounds – 25,000 for the author and translator(s).

Being nominated for the Man Booker Prize is evidence of the book’s undeniable merits, and it is not for nothing that it is called the book’s Oscar. The purpose of the prize is not only to name the best book of the year, but also to crown merit, raise the status of the participant in the eyes of the public and increase book sales.
