Miss World 2023: Sofia Shamiya goes to India for the contest

19-year-old Sofia Shamiya will represent Ukraine at the prestigious Miss World 2023 beauty pageant in Mumbai. The representative of Ukraine has already left for India. This was announced by the organising committee of the Miss Ukraine contest on Instagram, according to

“Today, our incredible Miss Ukraine 2023 soars to new heights, heading to India to represent our country at Miss World! This is not just a trip, it is a path to new opportunities, friendship and, of course, victory. You are our embodiment of pride! Let your confidence shine brighter than all the stars, and let your smile light the way,” the message reads,

Sofia Shamia is studying at the Faculty of Economics at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and is also fond of drawing. The girl teaches art therapy classes.

According to the contestant herself, she wants to use the Miss World platform to support Ukraine and not only tell people abroad our story, but also to convey information about our needs. The girl has already presented a charity video explaining the meaning of her victory in the Miss World talent contest. She spoke about the devastation in Ukraine and her public volunteer mission, which overwhelmingly consists of helping children affected by the war.

Sofia’s team prepared a national costume, a final evening gown and a series of highlights videos for the contest.

The Miss World Final will take place on 9 March at the Jio World Congress Centre in Mumbai.

What we know about Sofia Shamiya

Sofia Shamiya is an 18-year-old native of Kyiv who is studying at the Faculty of Economics at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Since childhood, she has been fond of art and also teaches art therapy classes – together with children and adults, Sofia paints pictures, which she then sells at auctions and donates the proceeds to charity.

In October 2023, Sofia took part in the Miss Ukraine 2023 National Beauty Pageant and won. on 9 March 2024, the girl will compete in the Miss World beauty pageant to be held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, India.

It should be noted that the Miss Ukraine 2023 contest got into a scandal because of the contenders for the crown. Some of the participants were accused of escorting and having ties with Russia, which led to the creation of a special organising committee that conducted additional checks on the contestants.

Regarding the scandal surrounding contestant Irina Pilyaeva, who was disqualified due to her relationship with Russian businessman Alexander Orlov, Shamia said she supported the organising committee’s decision.
