The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has developed regulatory and technical documentation for personal protective equipment for the military – a protective tent (armored blanket).
This was reported by the press service of the defense ministry, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“Our main task is to provide the military with modern means of protection. The development of regulatory and technical documentation for the armored blanket is another step towards improving the safety of personnel in the context of modern hostilities,” said Hlib Kanevsky, director of the Procurement Policy Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
According to him, in general, during 2024-2025, the procurement agency of the Ministry of Defense DOT contracted personal protective equipment for almost UAH 13.2 billion.
As noted, the armor blanket provides penetration and shrapnel protection in accordance with STANAG 2920 Ed.3 / AEP 2920 Ed.AVer.2 standards, which guarantees a high level of stopping fragments, bullets and other munitions. The basis of the protection is a soft ballistic element made of multilayer elastic material in a sealed waterproof cover.
When deployed, according to the agency, the ballistic package measures 160 x 80 cm and weighs approximately 10 kg. Since the design of the armor blanket provides for convenient folding in 3-4 layers, it allows the product to be used as a mobile shield by attaching it to an arm or shoulder.
It can also be easily transported thanks to special shoulder straps that can be adjusted in length.
“The armored blanket allows you to adapt to situations where you need to instantly take cover from shelling or explosion, quickly cover a window or doorway, or even protect expensive equipment from shrapnel damage,” said Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Kayola, head of the Central Logistics Development Department.
According to him, it is not just an awning, but a means of survival that can be the decisive factor between injury and rescue.
In its turn, the Ministry of Defense has called on manufacturers (suppliers) to notify the Logistics Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Central Logistics Development Department of their readiness to produce and provide free of charge samples of protective tents (armored blankets) for military (research) testing.
