The Verkhovna Rada has supported the appointment of Andriy Sybiga as Ukraine’s Foreign Minister. This was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak of the Voice parliamentary faction, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
“Today, the president submitted Sibiga’s candidacy to the parliament. Prior to that, Dmytro Kuleba, who had been head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2020, was dismissed.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was not present at the presentation of his minister. In his speech, Sibiga promised to simplify the provision of consular services.
258 MPs voted for the appointment.
What is known about Andriy Sybiga
Andrii Sybiga was born on 1 January 1975 in Zboriv, Ternopil region. He graduated from the Ivan Franko State University of Lviv with a degree in law and international relations. He is married and has three children.
Andriy Sybiga started working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1997.
Mr Sybiga started his career as an attaché. Later, he headed divisions and departments.
From 1998 to 2002, he was the second and then first secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland.
From 2008 to 2012, Andriy Sybiga was Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland.
As you know, from 2016 to 2021, Sybiga served as Ukraine’s Ambassador to Turkey.
In May 2021, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. In the Office, Sibiga was in charge of foreign policy and strategic partnership development.
In April 2024, he was appointed First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs by the government.
