Almost half of the money in Ukrainian banks is concentrated in the hands of 0.5% of depositors

Since the beginning of 2024, Ukrainians have significantly increased their savings in banks – the amount of deposits has grown by UAH 90.9 billion. At the same time, almost half of all funds are held in the accounts of 0.5% of depositors. This is evidenced by information from the Deposit Guarantee Fund, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"
In September alone, Ukrainians deposited an additional UAH 24.7 billion in bank accounts. The real growth of deposits, excluding exchange rate fluctuations, since the beginning of the year is UAH 54.1 billion.
As of 1 October, the total amount of deposits of individuals, including entrepreneurs, reached UAH 1,325.7 billion.

Ukrainians keep most of their funds in the national currency – UAH 854 billion. The remaining UAH 471.7 billion is held in foreign currency. In September, hryvnia deposits grew by UAH 18.5 billion, while foreign currency deposits increased by UAH 6.2 billion.
At the same time, almost half of all deposits (48.24%) are held by only half a percentage of depositors – people with deposits of more than UAH 600,000. At the same time, 98.23% of Ukrainians keep up to UAH 200,000 in banks.
The Deposit Guarantee Fund reminds that during martial law and for another three months after its end, the state guarantees Ukrainians the return of their deposits in full. After that, the maximum amount of guaranteed compensation will be UAH 600 thousand.
