The State Bureau of Investigation has served a notice of suspicion to a colonel of the medical service and a serviceman. According to the investigation, the latter issued illegal combat payments to a nurse, the officer’s wife. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation .

According to the investigation, in June 2022, a colonel of the medical service of one of the Armed Forces of Ukraine arrived in eastern Ukraine to perform combat missions. His wife was not in the military and was at home with their child.

Nevertheless, the officer made an agreement with the commander of the medical company and in July 2023 fictitiously “employed” his wife to serve in the unit, the SBI explains.

“The woman never showed up at the unit’s location, but on the basis of fictitious documents she received monthly combat payments. Thus, for 8 months of alleged service, she illegally received almost UAH 1 million,” the SBI said.

The serviceman, his wife and the commander of the medical company were served a notice of suspicion of embezzlement of property by abuse of office, in a particularly large scale, by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, under martial law (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The commander of the medical company was also served a notice of suspicion of knowingly making false official documents (Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the articles provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property.

The issue of compensation for losses from the scheme is currently being resolved.
