Mathematics has the lowest average score of all participants in the national multi-subject test by subject. This is evidenced by the report on the NMT in 2024, published by the Ukrainian Centre for Educational Quality Assessment.
This year, unlike in the previous year, all participants had to take compulsory tests not only in Ukrainian language and mathematics, but also in the history of Ukraine. In addition to the traditional elective subjects – one of the foreign languages (English, French, German or Spanish), physics, chemistry, biology – applicants also had the opportunity to take tests in Ukrainian literature and geography.
40,753 people (14.4%) did not pass the threshold of 100 points in at least one subject for which they appeared. The largest number of participants who did not pass the threshold was in mathematics: 36,215 people, which is 12.8% of all participants who took the maths test and whose results were not cancelled.
The number of such participants was 2,240 (2%), Ukrainian language – 1,218 (0.4%), Ukrainian literature – 1,150 (2.7%), physics – 791 (10.2%), history of Ukraine – 325 (0.1%), chemistry – 261 (8%), biology – 196 (0.4%), geography – 101 (0.2%), German – 49 (1.7%), Spanish – 7 (4.9%), and French – 5 (1.8%).
In particular, the average score for the mathematics test tasks of all participants is 132.5 points.
Instead, the highest average score in terms of academic subjects is in foreign languages – almost 150 points.
The calculations show that the participants who took the German language test received the highest average score compared to the results for other subjects – 152 out of 200 possible.
Other foreign languages were also high, with this year’s applicants averaging 149.1 points in English and 148.7 points in Spanish.
Ukrainian language, history of Ukraine, biology and geography have an average score of over 140 points.
The following subjects have an average score of less than 140: chemistry, physics and Ukrainian literature.
The ranking of subjects by the average score of all NMT participants is as follows:
- german – 152;
- english – 149.1
