The Bureau of Economic Security has reported exposing a large-scale scheme of embezzlement of public funds in the defence industry of Ukraine. According to the investigation, the former director of a state-owned defence enterprise created a criminal organisation that embezzled more than UAH 36 million of budget funds over two years, reports Komersant ukrainskyi
The scheme consisted of the alleged supply of equipment used exclusively in Su-27 and MiG-29 combat aircraft. In fact, this equipment came from the unaccounted-for balances of the enterprise, formed in the 90s.
According to the investigation, the criminals executed fictitious purchase contracts and forged documents to make the transactions appear legitimate. A total of 10 such transactions were carried out.

The case involves 10 people, including the former director of the company and his deputy. Five of the suspects are already in custody, and the former director is wanted.
The property of the organiser and other participants in the criminal scheme was seized. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.
