Macron mentions Ukraine in his New Year’s address
1 January 02:34In his New Year’s address to the nation, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the war in the Middle East and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine are “not distant conflicts,” Komersant ukrainskyi reports
In his greeting, published on the Elysee Palace website, the French leader emphasized that these wars “affect us directly and threaten security, unity and the economy.”
Macron also listed other events of the past 2024 that “pose a threat to European democracy”: tensions in Syria, election manipulations in Moldova, Georgia, and Romania, and terrorist attacks in European cities.
The French president called for “no longer shifting the issue of our own security and defense to other states” by investing in military rearmament.
Macron also noted the moments of pride for the French people, such as the Olympics in Paris and the reopening of Notre Dame de Paris after restoration.
It should be noted that on the night of December 31-January 1, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a New Year’s address.
