French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a “coalition” to provide Ukraine with “medium and long-range missiles and bombs”. He made the announcement at a briefing following a meeting of dozens of Ukraine’s partner countries in Paris, Kommersant Ukrainsky reports
“We are convinced that the defeat of Russia is essential for security and stability in Europe,”
– Emmanuel Macron said.
He listed several measures to strengthen efforts in favour of the Ukrainian army at a time when US aid, which is crucial for Kyiv, is being blocked in Congress by supporters of Donald Trump’s Republican Party.
The French president spoke of a commitment to “produce more” European weapons and announced the creation of a “coalition for deep strikes” to provide Kyiv with “medium and long-range missiles and bombs”. He also explained that he had “reached out” to “many European and non-European countries that have munitions”.
According to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, about fifteen countries have said they are ready to join the Prague initiative to purchase EU munitions outside Europe to better support Ukraine’s military efforts.
“This is a very strong signal to Russia,” he said,
– he said.
France will participate, while Dutch Prime Minister (retired) Mark Rutte mentioned his country’s contribution of “more than 100 million euros” to the Czech plan.
Now, the defence and foreign ministers of the coalition countries are to meet to “swiftly implement” these initiatives.
“In ten days we will have a clear answer with a serious agenda,”
– promised Emmanuel Macron, who is due to arrive in Ukraine by mid-March.
“Festival of security agreements”
Against the backdrop of disappointing news from the US Congress, the “Festival of Security Agreements with Ukraine” is gaining momentum, with Western countries guaranteeing our security under bilateral agreements such as the Budapest Memorandum. Ukraine has already signed such agreements with the UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Italy and Canada. Under these agreements, these states pledge to support Ukraine in the face of the Russian threat with finance, weapons and humanitarian aid.
The United States and Poland may be among the next signatories, as it is known that the government is negotiating with these countries.
For example, the US Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, said that two rounds of talks between Ukraine and the US have already taken place on the content and content of the relevant agreement with the US government.
Ukraine is desperately trying to gain the support of the world. In particular, the following 5 points of the Ukrainian Formula for Peace were presented at this year’s Davos Economic Forum.
