Lithuania is dismantling an entire thermal power plant to transfer it to Ukraine. This was announced on 20 September at a press conference by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, reports Komersant ukrainskyi.
“The entire thermal power plant in Lithuania is being dismantled and transferred to Ukraine in parts,” von der Leyen said.
According to her, in the near future Ukraine will receive even more resources to help it maintain its energy independence this winter.
“Yesterday, I did announce a support package of almost 160 million euros for repairs and emergency winter equipment. Part of this money comes from frozen Russian assets,” the European Commission President said.
In addition, the European Union is sending solar panels to 21 hospitals in the country to ensure uninterrupted energy supply. Eight of them should be fully equipped by this winter.
On 20 September, it was announced that the EU would provide Ukraine with a €35 billion loan supported by proceeds from frozen Russian assets. The funds will be used, among other things, for energy, bomb shelters in educational institutions, and domestically produced weapons such as long-range drones and air defence systems.
