Lviv residents are fined for new plastic windows in monument buildings

A fine and the requirement to restore wooden windows in place of illegal plastic ones is the decision of the administrative commission under the executive committee of the Lviv City Council, which considered the issue of violating the legislation on the protection of historical heritage in Lviv. This was reported by the Lviv City Council, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
During the meeting, 11 violations committed by residents in monument buildings were considered. These included the replacement of wooden windows and doors with plastic ones.
Thus, the administrative commission imposed a fine of UAH 1,700 each on the apartment owners for replacing wooden windows and doors with plastic ones in buildings that are architectural monuments and valuable buildings. In addition, under the terms of the security agreement, they are obliged to remedy the violation by replacing the plastic windows/balcony doors with wooden ones. If the violators fail to fulfill their obligations, the city will go to court.
Lviv residents were reminded once again that before carrying out work on architectural monuments and valuable buildings, they should contact the Department of Historic Environment Protection of the Lviv City Council and consult with them. It was also advised to engage professional restorers – contacts can be found in the online catalog Heritage Operators.
The city authorities, as noted in the report, encourage people to carry out professional restoration work through co-financing programs, in particular for the restoration of historic gates and windows, replacement of plastic windows with wooden ones, and restoration of balconies in monument buildings.
Earlier in the year, a series of theoretical and practical training sessions on monument preservation were held in Lviv for building managers and residents. In particular, they were told how to properly carry out restoration work and with whom to coordinate it. Using the example of a particular building, the restorers shared practical recommendations for repairing walls, carpentry, or forged elements.
