London increases pressure on Russia: who is affected by the new largest package of sanctions

On Monday, February 24, 2025, on the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the United Kingdom announced the largest package of sanctions against Russia since the beginning of the war. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the British government.
The new restrictions are aimed at undermining Russia’s military supplies, its economic resources, and individuals who contribute to the Kremlin’s aggression.
The new package includes the following categories of sanctions:
- Targeted restrictions on military supplies. Manufacturers and suppliers of military equipment: The sanctions affect companies engaged in the production and supply of machine tools, electronics, and dual-use goods, including microprocessors, used in Russian weapons systems. These companies are located in Central Asia, Turkey, Thailand, India and China.
- Restrictions against foreign individuals and organizations. For example, North Korean Defense Minister Noh Kwan-chol was included in the sanctions list for the participation of North Korean forces in hostilities on the side of Russia. The sanctions also affected the Kyrgyz Keremet Bank, which supported Russia’s financial operations.
- Sanctions against Russian oligarchs and companies. The list includes Roman Trotsenko, a Russian billionaire who supported the Kremlin’s military efforts. Also, 40 vessels used to circumvent oil sanctions by transporting Russian oil were subject to restrictions.
In addition to national measures, the UK is actively cooperating with international partners. The European Union has adopted the 16th package of sanctions against Russia, including export restrictions for 53 new companies that support the Russian military-industrial complex and a ban on imports of Russian aluminum.
These coordinated efforts are aimed at weakening Russia’s military capabilities and demonstrating international support for Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
New sanctions against Russia: what official London says about them
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized that every disrupted military supply channel, every blocked ruble transaction, and every exposed accomplice to Putin’s aggression brings the world closer to a just and lasting peace.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that these measures are aimed at increasing pressure on Russia to stop military operations in Ukraine. He also emphasized the need for close coordination with allies to ensure the security of Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
