The cost of lifecell tariffs will rise in February. Mykhailo Shelemba, CEO of DVL (Datagroup, Volia, and lifecell), said this in an interview with Forbes Ukraine, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

Mykhailo Shelemba explained that such an unpopular step had to be taken because of the rising cost of electricity.

“Unfortunately, there will be a forced price change for existing subscribers. It will take place in February,” Shelemba said.

The main reason for this was the rise in electricity costs. According to him, all operators felt the rise in electricity prices.

“Last year it almost doubled. For this year, we are planning to spend UAH 2.3 billion on it. Thanks to cost optimization, we will spend half of what the economic conditions require. The last price increase for existing subscribers was almost a year and a half ago, and it was not for everyone, but only for 15% of the base,” Shelemba said.

At the same time, he added that the price revision will not affect new customers who have ported their numbers to lifecell since December. They had the opportunity to fix the tariff until the end of the year.

At the end of last year, Ukraine’s largest mobile operator, Kyivstar, announced a planned 25% increase in prices for its services.

And in January, two of the country’s largest mobile operators, Vodafone and Kyivstar, announced another increase in tariffs for their services. The increase in the cost of monthly tariff plans, for example, at Vodafone, will be significant – from 40 to 60 hryvnias. Accordingly, the cost of annual contracts will also increase.
