The legendary Kyiv perepichka got its own sculpture: where to find it
10 October 05:18The legendary Kyivan perepichka has become the 45th anniversary mini-sculpture of the cultural and historical project “Shukai!” Project by Yulia Bevzenko, which tells the stories of Kyiv through bronze sculptures, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
Perepichka, the famous sausage in dough, the oldest street food in Kyiv, has been on sale for 38 years and is included in all kinds of guides for visitors to Kyiv. Almost every Kyivan was in line at 3 Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Street. The window, the queue outside it, the hand handing out pastries are symbols that everything will be fine, that Kyiv is alive! This is what the mini-sculpture is dedicated to – the bun in the hand, which the authors made always warm thanks to a built-in heater.
“‘When will the perepichka sculpture be made?’ is the question I’ve been asked most often since the opening of the “Shukai!” project,” says Yulia Bevzenko, Kyiv manager and author of the project. “I ate it when I came to Kyiv as a child and when I studied at the theatre, I ate it with friends and even with the chef of the NOMA restaurant when I presented Kyiv. And most importantly, it is almost the same story that connects the sausage in dough with millions of Kyiv residents. I’m grateful to Perepichka for the fact that each of us has had this experience, is having it and will have it.”
Anton Grishchenko, Director of Ukrainian Perepichka LLC:
“The sculpture is our first public appearance since we opened in 1986, and we are glad that it happened in such a cultural project where we acted as patrons. Our family loves Kyiv and believes in it. We have seen the capital on the day of Independence, during the Revolutions, empty during the Covid, united and unbreakable during the war. We will see and feed those who will celebrate the Victory on Khreshchatyk, which my father, Igor Mykolayovych Gryshchenko, Hero of Ukraine, founder of the legendary Kyivska Perepichka, fought for on the frontline along with other soldiers.”
A sign:
Whoever touches the pierogi will gain longevity
📍You can find the Kyivska Perepichka mini-sculpture at 3 Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Street, on the right near the window. Touch the sculpture, because it is warm, like a real perepichka.
The project “Look!” is a cultural and historical project that tells the stories of Kyiv through bronze mini-sculptures. Currently, there are 45 sculptures and new ones are being unveiled regularly.
