A fashion legend is leaving: Donatella Versace ends 28-year chapter at Versace – who will replace her

Donatella Versace, the younger sister of the fashion brand’s founder, the late Gianni Versace, has resigned as creative director of Versace. She wrote about it on Instagram, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
During her time at Versace, she strengthened the brand’s reputation around the world thanks to her close friendship with celebrities. For example, Jennifer Lopez wore a famous Versace dress to the 2000 Grammy Awards. The brand also has a long-standing relationship with British singer Dua Lipa, culminating in marketing campaigns and a subsequent collection of dresses. Donatella Versace is also a close friend of the Kardashian-Jenner family.
“For me, the greatest honor of my life was to continue the legacy of my brother Gianni. He was a true genius, but I hope I have some of his spirit and perseverance,” Versace said.
From now on, she will be the main ambassador of the brand and “will remain the most passionate supporter of Versace”.
“Versace is in my DNA and always in my heart,” the fashion designer added.
As creative director, Versace will be replaced by Dario Vitale, who previously worked as a designer at Miu Miu, a brand owned by Prada Group.
“It has always been important for me to support the next generation of designers. I am delighted that Dario Vitale will be joining us and excited to see Versace with new eyes. I would like to thank my incredible design team and all the Versace employees with whom I have had the honor of working for more than three decades,” said Donatella Versace.
Vitale, in turn, thanked Versace for their trust. He emphasized that he “has great respect for the history of this brand and looks forward to working on its future.”
Vitale will take over as Chief Creative Officer on April 1.
Donatella took over the fashion house in 1997 after the death of her brother and Versace founder Gianni Versace. The murder of the brand’s founder by serial killer Andrew Cunanan formed the basis for the second season of the American Crime Story series.
Donatella Versace is 69 years old. Her extravagant style of dress and plastic surgery have often been the subject of discussion in the press.
