  1. General cleaning. Before the New Year, it is customary to clean up the house, getting rid of unnecessary things and bad energy. This allows you to get rid of the old and make room for good luck, prosperity, and financial well-being in the coming year.
  2. Adding red decorative elements. For this holiday, houses in China are decorated with red, which symbolizes good luck and protection from evil spirits. Traditional red lanterns, paper crafts and ribbons are usually chosen to decorate the house, and inscriptions with wishes of good luck and health are placed on the doors and windows.
  3. Family dinner. The main event of the holiday is a dinner with the whole family. Dumplings are traditionally served on the festive table as a symbol of wealth, fish as a sign of prosperity, and a variety of desserts.
  4. Exchange of red envelopes with money. Instead of the usual gifts, it is customary in China to give each other red envelopes with money, also called “Hongbao”.
