Chinese delegates refuse to meet with Zelensky in Davos

The Chinese delegation dismissively ignored the signals of the Ukrainian side about the need for a meeting during the World Economic Forum in Davos, reports комерсант citing Politico.

On the eve of the summit, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, said that it was imperative for China to join the peace talks and hinted that Zelenskyy would have the opportunity to talk to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

However, Ukraine’s attempts to engage China in the discussion were unsuccessful, and Zelenskyy and Li never spoke.

According to the newspaper, this step finally shows that China does not intend to seek an end to the full-scale war with Putin. Instead, China has sided with Russia, supplying it with military goods that help the Russians kill Ukrainians despite Western pressure and sanctions.

At the same time, journalists claim that the Chinese delegation’s decision not to meet with Ukrainians was intentional, and not the result of, for example, a busy schedule. One senior U.S. official said on condition of anonymity that Beijing had explicitly rejected Kyiv’s request for a meeting. Another senior U.S. official also said anonymously that China refused any meetings to resolve the conflict after Russia called on it to stop diplomatic meetings with Ukraine.

“Festival of security agreements”

Against this backdrop, Ukraine is desperately trying to enlist the support of the world. In particular, the following 5 points of the Ukrainian Peace Formula were presented in Davos. At the previous consultations in Malta, the first five points of the Peace Formula were considered, which included nuclear and food security, release of prisoners, restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty. In Davos, five additional points were presented: the withdrawal of Russian troops and the cessation of hostilities, the restoration of justice, environmental safety, the prevention of escalation and recurrence of war, and the issue of confirming the end of the war.

The “Festival of Security Agreements with Ukraine” is gaining momentum, with our partners guaranteeing us security under bilateral agreements such as the Budapest Memorandum. After signing the agreement with the UK, Ukraine’s next bilateral security agreement may be with Canada. In addition, Ukraine is negotiating relevant agreements with six other countries: The United States, Canada, France, Germany, Poland, and Italy. In particular, US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said that two rounds of talks between Ukraine and the US had already taken place on the content and content of the relevant agreement with the US government. And French President Macron said he would personally arrive in Kyiv to finalise the security agreement between Ukraine and France.
