The Kremlin does not want the war to stop: Peskov says Russia’s preference

Russia does not intend to stop hostilities against Ukraine and rejects the possibility of a truce. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in an interview with the British Sky News channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to him, the Russian leadership believes that it currently has a strategic advantage at the front, so it sees no point in stopping.
Moscow has intensified its aerial bombardment of Ukraine in recent weeks and continues to reject Zelenskyy’s calls for a 30-day ceasefire.
“We now have a strategic advantage. Why should we lose it? We will not lose it. We are moving on. We are moving forward and will continue to move forward,” Peskov said.
Russia has previously stated that it would commit to a ceasefire only if Kyiv stops receiving foreign military support, fearing that a pause in the fighting would give Ukraine a chance to rearm and regroup its forces.
Kremlin sets conditions for the West
Despite the rhetoric of “superiority,” the Kremlin spokesman did not rule out the possibility of a truce, but only in exchange for the West’s withdrawal of military support for Ukraine. In particular, he referred to the cessation of arms supplies from the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.
Peskov emphasized that, in Moscow’s view, a real truce is possible only if military supplies are completely stopped.
What does this mean?
Such statements by the Kremlin indicate that there is no real intention to end the war diplomatically unless it is accompanied by a decrease in Ukraine’s defense capabilities. Official Moscow is trying to use the ceasefire as a tool to put pressure on Kyiv’s Western partners, while strengthening its own positions at the front.
