“The Book Arsenal evaluated book design and identified the best
12 December 12:14The International Book Arsenal Festival in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut in Ukraine has announced the publications that won the annual Best Book Design Competition. This is reported on the festival’s website, Komersant ukrainskyi informs.
This year, 242 books that were published between December 2023 and November 2024 and had not participated in the competition before competed for the victory.
The Grand Prix and the victory in the Utilitarian Book category went to the publication “Between” (the first issue). The editors are Alina Stamenova, Dinara Khalilova, and Olya Vasilets. Visual concept, design, layout – Sasha Bychenko, Kultura studio. Production technologist – Ruslan Fokin, Publish Pro. Color correction – Volodymyr Havrysh. The publisher is Kultura Medialna.
The winner in the category “Text Book” was the publication “Strength Grew on the Fracture.” The concept of the publication, architectonics – Tetyana Kostina. Cover design and layout by Daria Stetsenko. The publisher is punkt publishing.
The book Kotsiubynskyi: Between Cinema and Literature won in the Art Book nomination. The authors of the book are Alyona Penziy, Stanislav Bytyutskyi, and Oleh Olifer. The book’s artwork, design, and layout were created by the Butsa bureau, Galia Vergeles. The publisher is Dovzhenko Center.
The jury awarded the first place in the Visual Storytelling nomination to The Path of Grain. The artwork was created by Postmen, Yaroslav Vedmid, Oleh Hryshchenko, and Oleksiy Chekal. Font design – by Oleksiy Chekal (title), Fixel font. Self-publishing, at the initiative of KERNEL.
This year’s Experiment nomination has no absolute winner. The jury collectively decided not to award a winner in this category.
This year, the jury awarded seven publications with Special Awards.
It is also reported that the finalists of the competition are:
– in the Text Book nomination: the publications “Can I have one onion?” and “Culture under pressure from LLC/OOOO”;
– in the Art Book nomination: Alla Horska and Before the Future;
– in the Utilitarian Book nomination: ChasoLine and the periodical Chronicle of Ukrainian Design;
– in the Visual Storytelling nomination: My Plast, The Secret Life of Miracle Workers by Maria Prymachenko, and A Tale from Granny Nastia: About a Man, His Daughter, a Master, and a Thoroughbred Mare;
– in the “Experiment” nomination: “Dream Book” and “Sleeping in a Warm Bed on Grandma’s Soft Embroidered Pillow”.
