The criminals hack into messenger accounts and send messages with phishing links to the victims’ contacts about allegedly receiving financial assistance from the state or international organisations. In this way, the attackers obtain the victims’ banking details. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the National Police.
When a user clicks on such a link, they are asked to enter their internet banking access details or bank card information (number, expiration date and CVV code).
After receiving these data, the criminals gain access to the user’s bank account, from which they withdraw all available funds, including credit limits, to controlled accounts.
“Trust only official sources of information and ignore dubious messages from unverified accounts. Once again, the cyber police warns against fraud,” the National Police said.
We also remind you that official information on the possibility of receiving financial assistance from the state or international organisations is always published on their official resources. Therefore, check the sources of information and do not trust dubious messages received in messengers.
Cyberpolice recommends protecting your accounts with two-factor authentication to avoid becoming a victim of fraud.
