Hasidim leave Uman after celebrating Rosh Hashanah (VIDEO)
5 October 22:06Rosh Hashanah celebrations, which began on 2 October, have come to an end in Uman. The Hasidim are now on their way home. Iryna Rybnytska, executive director of the Historical and Cultural Centre of Uman charity foundation, told this in an exclusive commentary to Komersant Ukrainian .
On the way to the Hasidic quarter, there was a transport collapse due to long lines of buses and cars.
“In the evening of 5 October, immediately after the end of Shabbat, Hasidic pilgrims return home en masse. Some by car, and some by buses organised by groups,” Rybnytska said.
Most of the residents of Israel came to Uman. The rest are from Europe and America, said Rybnytska.
“Given the fact that Ukrainian airports are currently closed, most pilgrims flew to Romania, Poland and Moldova, and then travelled by land. Now they are returning home by bus and taxi to the countries from which they have flights home,” said Iryna Rybnytska.
It should be noted that some of the pilgrims are staying. Some stay to stay longer at the tzaddik’s grave, others buy souvenirs for their families.
It should be added that this year more than 33,000 Hasidim arrived in Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah.
Iryna Rybnytska said that the Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage in Uman went off without major violations or incidents, as this year’s pilgrimage was organised at a high level thanks to law enforcement agencies, local authorities and several foundations that organised the pilgrimage.
