“Manifest” became the word of the year according to the Cambridge Dictionary, as it is the most popular word – in 2024, it was searched almost 130 thousand times. This was reported by UP. Life,” Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

“Manifest” means to imagine achieving success and sincerely believe that it will become a reality,” the dictionary website says.

“When choosing the word of the year, we are guided by three considerations: user data, the spirit of the times, and language. Which word was searched for most often, or which was the most popular? Which one really reflects what was happening that year? And what’s interesting about that word from a linguistic point of view?” said Wendalyn Nichols, publishing manager of the Cambridge Dictionary.

This year, she said, the word “manifest” won because it has grown significantly in search queries, its use has expanded significantly in all types of media, and it demonstrates how the meaning of a word can change over time.

By the way, in 2023, the word of the year according to the Cambridge Dictionary was the verb “hallucinate”.

The Collins Dictionary of the English Language recognized the word “brat” as the main word of 2024 in honor of the popular album and cultural phenomenon created by singer Charli XCX.
